Manufacturing
Bringing existing installations back up to code.
Brake retrofit kits allow an existing elevator installation to meet current safety requirements without replacing the complete machine or drive. Together with Hyperion Solutions, FUKA developed the Titan Dual Plunger Retrofit Brake Kit for the North American market. It is available for legacy traction machines. On gearless configurations it provides certified ACO and UCM emergency braking, tested to ASME A17.1-2022 and CSA B44:22 by TÜV SÜD America.

Modernization doesn't have to mean replacing everything. Often it is a code change the installation has to answer, without tearing out a machine that still does its job.
That is retrofit work, and it lives or dies on the engineering around the part, not just on the part itself.
Dual-plunger redundancy
Designed to eliminate the single point of failure associated with legacy single-plunger brake configurations.
ACO and UCM emergency braking
On gearless configurations the kit provides certified emergency braking for ascending car overspeed (ACO) and unintended car movement (UCM).
Keep the machine you have
Designed to upgrade existing traction equipment instead of unnecessarily replacing an otherwise serviceable machine.
Certified configurations
Gearless configurations are tested to ASME A17.1-2022 and CSA B44:22 by TÜV SÜD America.
Answers
Straight answers.
- Does a brake retrofit require replacing the entire machine?
- Usually not. The Titan Dual Plunger Retrofit Brake Kit is designed to upgrade existing traction equipment rather than replace an otherwise serviceable machine.
- What is a dual plunger brake and why does it matter?
- A dual plunger configuration uses two independent plungers instead of one. It is designed to eliminate the single point of failure associated with legacy single-plunger brake configurations.
- Does the Titan kit cover ACO and UCM?
- The kit is available for legacy traction machines. On gearless configurations it provides certified emergency braking for ACO (ascending car overspeed) and UCM (unintended car movement), tested to ASME A17.1-2022 and CSA B44:22 by TÜV SÜD America. The certified emergency braking function is bound to gearless configurations and is not claimed for legacy traction machines in general.
- Whose product is Titan?
- Titan is a brand of Hyperion Solutions. The Titan Dual Plunger Retrofit Brake Kit was developed in collaboration with FUKA Elevator Solutions for the North American elevator market. It was recognized by Elevator World as 2025 Product of the Year in the Safety Products category.
